To achieve optimum health, there must be a balance between the physical and psychological aspects of life. At Center Point Medicine, with offices in San Diego, California, La Jolla, California, and Syracuse, New York, the caring, dedicated staff believes that psychological factors can be precursors to the development of illness. Stress and anxiety may also be responsible for patients having a diminished response to medical treatments.
Dr. Ran D. Anbar and his dedicated team of health care providers offer unique health services to help patients overcome psychological roadblocks or use the power of their minds to improve their overall health. A recognized leader in hypnosis techniques, Dr. Anbar uses various pediatric hypnosis and counseling methods to bring about positive change in both the physical and mental health of each patient.
In addition to in-office hypnosis treatment, Dr. Anbar, Dr. Danielle Aretz, Dr. Rebecca Cherry, Dr. Nadia Sarwar, and experienced nurse practitioners Amy Chambers, Sherrie Jacoby, and Christine Sullivan, teach patients how to use hypnosis on their own through focusing inwardly and directing their attention toward the positive. Hypnosis techniques can be taught in just minutes to patients as young as four years old.
The Center Point Medicine team offers hypnosis and counseling services to address a variety of chronic functional disorders, including insomnia, nightmares, and tics and chronic health conditions, such as arthritis, asthma, cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, and migraine headaches. Their techniques have been beneficial for many patients and proven effective in emergency departments and pediatric intensive care units of hospitals around the country.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

In your first visit your doctor will get to know about you and your child. The doctor will ask your child why s/he is there and why s/he wants to help themselves. You will be asked about your child’s medical history, and you will both learn about hypnosis and how it can help. You’ll be able to ask any questions that you might have about how treatment with hypnosis works. During an appointment in our New York office, children and their parents are brought into a private consultation room where they are provided access to a computer with video capabilities. Ear phones are available for use, if desired.
Hypnosis can help us improve how our minds work. In medical settings, hypnosis can help patients cope better with their symptoms and even resolve some of them. Also, hypnosis can help people develop insights, and create more positive, peaceful, and confident outlooks on life.
Medical counseling helps children and adults learn how to cope better with psychological issues that may be causing or are the result of medical conditions. Such counseling includes teaching patients how to think about and deal with their stressors in more positive ways. This usually leads to improvement in their symptoms.
Embrace your challenges with an open heart, because through every challenge strength forms.
At Center Point Medicine, our mission is to make mental health care accessible for children with medical illness.
We aim to accomplish this mission by training Center Point Medicine pediatricians and nurse practitioners to enhance their ability to counsel children including through use of hypnosis; making the communities we serve aware of the large number of children who can benefit from mental healthcare and the unique clinical care we offer; and keeping our services affordable for our patients and their families.
